Style archetype
Scandinavian
Light, bright and airy. Pale oak, white walls, textile warmth.
The long-winters aesthetic exported: maximise natural light, pale wood, white or soft-grey walls, wool and linen for warmth. Scandinavian differs from Japandi in that it tolerates painted white boards, embraces hygge softness, and will let a gloss sparkle through on metalwork - but the floor itself remains pale and matt. Honey-blonde to chalk-white oak is the territory.
Chalk-white; pale oak; oat; soft slate-grey; blush. Pantone Cloud Dancer is effectively the wall colour.

Pitfalls to avoid
- Yellowing is the failure mode. Do not specify an amber-drying oil over pale oak - it will go golden within 6 months.
- Avoid heavy-grain Australian hardwoods (ironbark, jarrah) - wrong colour, wrong texture for the style.
- Gloss reads as sterile-showroom. Keep to matt or satin-matt.
- Wide planks only - strip flooring reads as 1990s pine.
