Jarrah Floor Sanding
Appearance
Rich, deep red to burgundy-brown, darkening significantly with age and UV. Generally straight grain, even texture. One of the most recognisable Australian timbers.
Sanding Jarrah Floors
Sands well but the dust is very fine and red -- it gets everywhere, protect furnishings thoroughly. High tannin reacts with ferrous metals. Old salvaged Jarrah can be incredibly hard and dry, eating belts faster than fresh stock.
Best Finish for Jarrah
Bona Traffic HD in Matt or Extra Matt. The deep red colour is the star -- keep the finish clear and low-sheen. Avoid solvent-based finishes that will amber/yellow the timber.
Caring for Jarrah Floors
Never use steel wool. High tannin means any contact with iron causes permanent black stains. UV causes significant colour change over 6-12 months. Move rugs periodically to avoid light patches. Standard damp mop care.
